With around 3,000 km of pipelines under operation in Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia, Epic Energy is committed to ensuring that people who live or work near our transmission pipelines are aware of our pipeline operations. We have extensive programs in place to protect our assets and prevent unauthorised excavation that could cause damage to a pipeline.

Pipeline Operations

Pipelines are one of the safest forms of transporting fuel such as natural gas and liquid hydrocarbons, but damage to a pipeline causing gas or liquid to escape can be dangerous.

Public awareness and understanding of pipeline operations is vital to the continued safe operations of pipelines owned and operated by Epic Energy.

Pipeline Awareness Program

Epic Energy’s national Pipeline Awareness Program aims to raise awareness of the presence of buried high pressure gas or hydrocarbon pipelines and to increase understanding of the public’s role in preventing third party damage to those pipelines.

The program includes:

  • pipeline surveillance flights and road patrols that are undertaken regularly along the entire pipeline route to detect potential or existing unauthorised activities on or near the pipeline easement
  • regular ongoing liaison with landholders and local community groups along the pipeline route to inform people of the correct processes to follow when work is required within the pipeline easements
  • presentations to community organisations such as local government departments, utilities, authorities, construction and excavation companies – it is particularly critical that these sectors of the public are aware of planning notification protocols and safe work practices in the vicinity of gas pipelines

Contact Epic Energy’s South Australian Operations on (08) 8343 8100 for more information about our Pipeline Awareness Program or to arrange a presentation tailored to your specific needs.
